Jay Steinfeld’s journey gives a message of hope and inspiration towards those looking to become entrepreneurs and business owners. Not only was he able to sell his business to Home Depot, but he was also able to increase the valuation of his company in a substantial way.
Jay was able to figure out how to become a successful business owner. During his journey, he discovered 4 core values that helped him develop as an entrepreneur:
Continue to Evolve: The first thing to keep in mind when building a business and becoming a successful owner is to Evolve. Evolve in your procedures and actions, evolve as a person, and acknowledge that everything is constantly changing. Most importantly, make your team evolve, and as a leader be a resource for those who want to evolve.
Keep Experimenting: Experimenting is another big lesson entrepreneurs should be ready for. It is expected that most people are afraid of taking risks. Experimenting and going through failures, rejections, and embarrassing moments is not attractive to people who are just starting in their ventures. However, experimenting is the only way you will find out how things work when managing a business. Experimenting allows you to make several attempts to achieve success.
Express Yourself: Expressing yourself is another core value that helped Jay’s entrepreneurial journey. As an owner, you should look for ways to allow yourself and others in your team to express themselves. If the entrepreneur creates a safe space for everyone in the organization to open up then productivity will be higher and people will be more likely to collaborate with each other.
Enjoy the Ride: Enjoying the ride implies celebrating accomplishments and creating a recreational environment. The goal of a business owner should be to focus on creating the culture of the company to be a healthy and joyful place to work.
These are some of the core values that made Jay Steinfeld become a successful business owner which later helped him increase the value of his business to make the largest and most important transaction he could. His ability to implement these values to live by made him get the attention of the world’s largest home improvement company.
